5 Vol. 45 No. 3 - September 2023 Issue scte news The picturesque grounds of Tylney Hall in Hampshire set the stage for the eagerly anticipated SCTE (Society for Broadband Professionals) Summer Lecture & Activity Day 2023. On a sun- kissed day in July, industry leaders, experts, and members gathered to discuss the latest advancements in the broadband and telecoms landscape. After an introduction from Executive Member Dave Hodges, the day kicked off with a slightly different kind of lecture, delivered by Sarah Golley of Borderless Performance, whose focus on empathy, listening and emotional intelligence made people sit up. Sarah is an executive coach who is also partnering with the SCTE to provide human skills training courses for all SCTE members free of charge – included in the membership fee. You can find out more about what she is offering and how you can benefit here: https://www.thescte. eu/training It turns out everyone can benefit from working on their human skills, something that is all-too-often ignored in an industry defined by splicing, connecting and installing. The feedback we received from this first lecture was exceptional and confirmed what the SCTE had long suspected; that regardless of what stage we are in our careers; human skills training is an ongoing process and is completely transferable, whether it is about handling an interview situation or dealing with conflict in the workplace.
