6 Vol. 45 No. 3 - September 2023 Issue scte news This was followed by a fascinating look at how data analytics sourced from piracy download sites are now influencing the global content streaming business, in a very entertaining lecture delivered by Guy Oliver, Enterprise Sales Director at MUSO. A data analytics firm based in London, it is at the epicentre of this unique trend, one that is transforming the industry. After decades of piracy being considered a costly, criminal and depressing scourge for major studios and TV networks, this approach turns that on its head and the data is now informing producers like never before. It is still a costly, criminal and depressing scourge but at least something positive is coming from it, thanks to the masterminds at Muso. Finally our last lecture was a return to a more traditional format, looking at network automation, given by a well-known face to many, John Knox, Consulting Solutions Engineer at Calix, whose deep experience in this area was evident; he explained the benefits utilising data and automation can have for both ISPs and subscribers, improving troubleshooting, baselining and archival as well as saving money. All of the lectures are available on our YouTube channel, where there are archives going back years containing all our lectures so be careful! That is one serious rabbit hole if you are technically inclined. Find us here: https://www.youtube.com/ @thescte However, the SCTE Summer Lecture and Activity Day wasn’t just about serious discourse. The event was perfectly balanced with recreational activities that fostered networking and relaxation. As a way of thanking our members for another year’s loyal membership, we treated our guests to an afternoon of clay pigeon and pistol shooting as well as archery in the stunning landscaped grounds of Tylney Hall. It was also a great way to get to know each other and everyone left having reconnected with old friends made some great new contacts. SAVE THE DATE! Our next event is the Autumn Lecture & AGM, featuring all-female panel for the first time, some exciting news about the SCTE itself and a cocktail reception into the evening. It takes place on October 12 at One Great George Street, London.
