Ian Nock is a broadband and cable industry technologist, strategist and consultant who has spent more than 25 years shaping the evolution of high-performance networks and video services across Europe. As Managing Consultant at Fairmile West, Ian brings deep expertise in end-to-end broadband and video architectures, from core networks to the connected home, and from physical to application layers. His work has been instrumental in architecting, defining and launching many cable, IPTV, satellite, and OTT platforms across more than 20 countries.
He has led technical and strategic initiatives for some of Europe’s largest operators, including Liberty Global, UPC, Virgin Media, and Deutsche Telekom. He has also worked with KPN, Vodafone, and TalkTalk and many technology vendors, bridging traditional cable distribution with new developments in fibre delivery, next-generation IP delivery and legacy Broadcast solutions. His contributions include device platform architecture for the EOS/TiVo V6 and Horizon STBs at Liberty Global, broadband gateways / home networking, early hybrid cable/IPTV deployments, and entertainment services delivered onto proprietary and retail platforms alike. From middleware to STB hardware and cloud video platforms, he has consistently delivered solutions that combine network scale with IP agility.
A Fellow of the SCTE (Society for Broadband Professionals) and member of the IET, IEEE, and SMPTE, Ian stands at the intersection of engineering, standards, and strategic transformation. Ian also has been the Chair of the Ultra HD Forum Interoperability Working Group since 2017, working to resolve challenges and define best practices for video production, distribution and consumption over all distribution networks.
