SCTE Announces 2024 Autumn Lecture & AGM
The SCTE® (Society for Broadband Professionals) today announces that its annual Autumn Lecture & AGM will be taking place on Wednesday October 16 at One Great George Street in London for the fibre, cable and telecoms industries.
As part of its mission to educate and inform, the SCTE hosts these events three times a year as a benefit for its members and the wider industry.
This year’s Autumn Lecture focuses specifically on sustainability, featuring a lineup of speakers covering a broad range of topics from data centres to upcycling, from training to education.
The event commences at 10am with presentations by John Booth, MD of data centre consultancy Carbon3IT and Martin Bradburn of UK-based, liquid immersion data storage company Peasoup about the increasingly important role data centres are playing, especially in light of the recent government announcement designating them Critical National Infrastructure (CNI).
The SCTE also welcomes Ricky White of Cable Giants, a Kent-based fibre optic cable installations company, who will be leading a round table discussion on the opportunities around fibre optic cable recycling, and Jason Kelly, COO of California-based Rincon, delivering a talk about the upcycling of refurbished legacy hardware.
Following the AGM at 2pm for SCTE Members is the afternoon session, which tackles the training and education so necessary in facilitating changes in the approach to sustainability amongst individuals and companies in order to achieve their net zero objectives. Neal Romanek, Editorial Director at The Flint, an online news and media hub dedicated to sustainability, will join Anthony Daly and James Dove of ClimateEQ, a carbon reduction training consultancy, that provides training courses to improve carbon literacy in the media and technology industries. Alongside these speakers is Dom Robinson, founder of Greening Of Streaming, a non-profit membership organisation that seeks to raise sustainability awareness and spread best practice for the streaming industry.
Dr Anthony Basham, President of the SCTE said, “At the SCTE we felt it important to host an event solely on sustainability, as it is too often an add-on to the main event. This way we can learn some valuable lessons from experts in the industry and implement these learnings into our own lives. We will all come away enlightened. We can’t afford not to.”
The Autumn Lecture forms part of a series of events provided by the SCTE as part of a series during the calendar year. Designed to raise and maintain standards across the cable, fibre and telecoms sectors, the SCTE has been providing accreditation, training courses, publications, webinars, podcasts, standards updates, networking opportunities and a close-knit community of engineers and technicians since 1945. At the Autumn Lecture, there will be two sessions in the morning, followed by the AGM and the longer panel discussion in the afternoon. There will be plenty of opportunities to network during coffee breaks in the morning and afternoon, plus a 90-minute networking lunch in the bar area.
