For more information, visit www.theSCTE.eu Embracing the Future How SCTE Supports its Members in the Shift to Fibre Technologies As the telecommunications industry undergoes a significant transformation from cable to fibre infrastructures, the need for a skilled workforce with expertise in fibre optic technologies has never been greater. Training approaches are also continuously evolving in response to this change, shifting from a focus on theoretical knowledge to more hands-on, practical training experiences. Traditionally, the SCTE has offered a large catalogue of theoretical training courses, covering various aspects of cable networks, fibre, and Wi-Fi technologies. Recognising the industry’s move towards a more practical approach and the need to focus on new technologies, the SCTE has made a strategic decision to provide even greater value to its members. By making these theoretical training courses available for free, the SCTE aims to enrich the practical learning delivered in-house by companies and other providers, ultimately giving members a deeper understanding of the technologies, they work with. This approach aligns with the SCTE’s mission to raise industry standards while fostering a culture of continuous learning and collaboration among its members. Human Skills Training Now Available In addition to the existing catalogue, the SCTE is launching a series of “Human Skills” training courses. Human skills refer to personal, interpersonal, and social competencies that help individuals function effectively in the workplace and interact harmoniously with others. These new offerings will include a comprehensive mentor development programme and monthly topical training courses, all of which will also be made available for free to SCTE members. This initiative not only supports the SCTE’s mission to raise industry standards but also enhances the membership experience by promoting learning and collaboration. By providing training programs that focus on both technical and human skills, the SCTE is equipping professionals not only to master the latest technologies but also to work effectively within diverse teams and adapt to the ever-evolving needs of the industry. The SCTE’s decision to offer free access to these training resources highlights the organisation’s dedication to empowering its members to excel in their careers. By offering these valuable resources and initiatives, the SCTE is actively contributing to the development of a skilled workforce capable of driving innovation and growth in the sector. In conclusion, the SCTE’s proactive approach to addressing the changing needs of the telecommunications industry demonstrates the organisation’s commitment to supporting its members and raising industry standards. James Harwood, Chair of the Training Committee and Exec Committee member The SCTE has announced that it will now offer its full catalogue of theoretical-based training courses as a free member benefit. Previously these courses cost £120 each to learners, these nine courses will be accessible to members at no cost, significantly enhancing the value of SCTE membership.
