47 Vol. 44 No. 3 - September 2022 Issue from the industry We also look forward to welcoming our industry partners who generously support this year’s event, including ACA, AMC Networks, Anna & John Sie Foundation, BOYCOM Vision, CableLabs, Cox, Crown Media, Midco, NCTA, NCTC, Netcracker, OWN, Warner Bros. Discovery, Cablefax, LightReading, and NYC TV Week. We have had a few disrupters over the years and I suppose there is some truth in the old adage, ‘what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger’! What have you learned from the pandemic as far as your business is concerned? The pandemic posed numerous challenges for business; The Cable Center included. It also revealed our industry’s capacity to come together to solve complex problems, quickly. What might normally take months or years to accomplish, got done in weeks. Collaborative problem solving is key. I have heard this from IBC too; everybody pulled together. Even fierce competitors put rivalries aside during this time. It was really something. We never lost momentum or focus. We transitioned our Intrapreneurship Academy courses to virtual collaboration, offering our corporate partners a solution for developing leaders in a remote environment. We now offer all courses digitally as our predominant model post-Covid. Interestinghowmany newbusinesses andbusiness models emerged out of the pandemic. Very true. Serendipitously, we launched our Leading With Agility course as the pandemic struck. It has now become a must-do course for leaders to improve competences to adapt, innovate, and thrive in change. What’s happening down the line? The “heart” of what we do supports the “head” of our mission, which is the Intrapreneurship Academy. When we started thinking about this in 2016, our constituents were asking us to teach them how to instill entrepreneurial mindsets in the workplace. Corporate leaders who think like business owners are key assets because they have their eye on the things that matter most to modern organisations—from new technology to diversity, from fresh trails to blaze to the most cutting-edge ways to lead. What is the thinking behind the Academy exactly? Our mission is to strengthen industry leaders with intrapreneurial skills to become the change-makers and risk-takers who usher their organisation into the future. Intrapreneurs are the greatest untapped business accelerator! The statistics around the impact of intrapreneurship on innovation are extraordinary. How have you come up with this kind of model? I talk with a lot of Learning and Development leaders and a universal post-pandemic challenge is engagement. We all know that engagement fuels retention and helps attract new talent. Through the Intrapreneurship Academy, we provide a vibrant community for resource and idea sharing to energise, inspire, and motivate participants. We currently offer four courses as part of a system of building blocks that form the intrapreneurial mindset. This October, we’re launching a new interlocking course to develop rising leaders. Successful industry entrepreneur and executive coach, Susie Tomenchok, is the developer and leader of Intrapreneurial Leadership, now enrolling for October. I encourage your membership to take advantage of our virtual immersive professional development program. On many levels, it sounds like Intrapreneurship Academy and corresponding thought leadership is a great antidote and support for navigating the new normal, what are you seeing in the U.S.? As I mentioned, employee engagement, post pandemic, is a big challenge in the U.S. and abroad. For women, burnout is something we can’t ignore. Deloitte’s Women at Work 2022 study found the number of women experiencing stress and burnout is high, around 54 percent.
