BEVERLEY WALKER FIAM FSCTE (formerly Allgood) has been with the CAI (Confederation of Aerial Industries Ltd) for over 42 years (she is quick to point out that she was a baby when she started!) and, during that time, has seen the CAI grow into the organisation that it is today.
At the retirement of Wilfred Watts in 1987, Beverley was appointed Company Secretary to the Confederation and also Company Secretary to an employer’s organisation, the FEDC. In 1991, the CAI decided to branch out on its own and Beverley became the CAI’s first full-time employee working from Fulton House in Wembley.
In 1991, Beverley took over as National Secretary to the SCTE following the retirement of founder member and Secretary, Tom Hall MBE. This was certainly a great honour for a relatively young woman (at the time) being appointed as his successor. In addition to CAI and SCTE roles, Beverley is also the Company Secretary to SCTE Ltd, Broadband Training Ltd and CAI Education & Skills Ltd.
At the SCTE’s 60th anniversary dinner in 2005, Beverley was awarded an Honorary Fellowship of the Society, an achievement of which she is justifiably proud. Beverley also supervised the major refurbishment and move of office from Fulton House to Communications House in Watford in 2007, a building which is now the jointly-owned headquarters of the SCTE and CAI.
In 2015, Beverley was also the recipient of the Society’s Tom Hall Award for Outstanding Services to Broadband Engineering for her tireless efforts in supporting the SCTE and its subsidiary companies.
