As the coronavirus (COVID-19) impact continues worldwide, we have taken the difficult decision to postpone all Society events until further notice. This includes the Society’s 75th Anniversary Annual Gala Awards Dinner at the Tower of London in June, which has now been postponed to 26 June 2021, and its Summer Lecture which will now be held on 7 July 2021 at Mercedes-Benz World. The SCTE Benelux Group’s Summer Lecture on 11 June 2020 has also been cancelled. Next year’s Spring Lecture will take place on 24 March 2021. We will also take a view, in the next two months, on our Autumn Lecture and AGM (7 October 2020) in London and keep you updated. The health and safety of our members is always paramount.
If you are self-isolating or working from home, and wish to refresh or update your knowledge, we have made a free special edition of the SCTE Fibre Optic Transmission for Technicians Course available on the www.broadbandtraining.eu website for all members. This training course was due to be a member gift for our 75th anniversary this year, and we hope that it will both upskill and entertain you while COVID-19 imposes itself on our daily life. Please request a log-in at www.broadbandtraining.eu/lms

Covid-19 is already having a significant impact on services and placing a greater demand on networks, as more people work from home, provide home schooling or stream online entertainment. UK telecoms regulator, Ofcom, has launched ‘Stay Connected’, a nationwide campaign advising the public on ways reduce pressure on networks during the coronavirus lockdown – see https://www.ofcom.org.uk/phones-telecoms-and-internet/advice-for-consumers/stay-connected
