SCTE extends training portfolio

New training courses on ‘Network Architecture and Design’, ‘Introduction to Broadband’ and ‘Fibre Optic Transmission for Technicians’ have now been finalised by the SCTE. The Society has also updated and revised its original training courses – ‘Installation Technicians’, ‘Service Technicians’ and ‘Network Technicians’.

Make your SCTE award nominations

SCTE regularly runs a series of industry achievement awards for the broadband industry. These celebrate individual and company success in the broadband arena. Most of the awards are given out at every SCTE annual dinner. We are now seeking nominations for SCTE’s individual awards and technological innovation awards – the deadline for nominations is the end of January 2014.

Broadband Training Appointment

Philip HumphriesBroadband Training Ltd, SCTE-approved trainers for SCTE training courses, recently appointed Philip Humphries as Training and Marketing Manager for SCTE courses worldwide.

He will assist the Broadband team at selected exhibitions and conferences around the world and, in his training role, will present SCTE courses and train other trainers where appropriate. Philip will report to the directors of Broadband Training Ltd on new opportunities for more courses as well as course improvements and extensions of existing courses.

“Philip’s extensive experience in both writing and presenting training courses will be a great asset to Broadband Training Ltd,” explained Chris Swires, Chairman, Broadband Training Ltd.

Philip Humphries is a qualified professional technical sales engineer, with over 25 years of experience in technical support and account management, and has also provided training and consultancy in the electronics industry especially in the video sector. Since graduating, he has worked in video technology, starting with R & D into military simulation systems then moving into test and measurement instrumentation including video and MPEG devices.

Most recently, he was responsible for technical support and training across Europe for a leader in the multiscreen IP delivery broadcast industry.

New Virgin Media Taster Training Dates

Following its successful last series of taster training days at Virgin Media, SCTE’s next training days are planned for 12 November 2013 at The Cairn Hotel, Bathgate, Scotland, 13 November 2013 at Virgin Media Wythenshawe (Manchester) and 15 November 2013 at The Legacy Cardiff International Hotel. The SCTE believes these training days will provide vendors with a new opportunity to engage with VM technicians and engineers in a friendly and professional setting.
