SCTE ANNOUNCES SUMMER LECTURE: “CONTENT DELIVERY: INNOVATION AND IMAGINATION”

The SCTE (Society for Broadband Professionals) returns after a two-year hiatus with its enduringly popular Summer Lecture, which takes place at the prestigious Mercedes-Benz World in Weybridge, Surrey on July 6.

Featuring lectures from three leading industry figures, the theme this year is Content Delivery: Innovation and Imagination.  The speakers so far include Matt Stagg, Director of Mobile and Immersive Strategy at BT Sport, and Xavier Leclercq, VP of Business Development at French video service provider Broadpeak.

The lectures take place in the morning from 9.30am, followed by a light networking lunch then the attendees have the option of a driving experience in a high-performance car around the racetrack in the afternoon.

Matt Stagg will be delivering a lecture entitled “The Metaverse Explained”, with a focus on sport in the Metaverse. He aims to explain what the Metaverse is and what it can offer sports fans, through the innovative use of virtual, augmented, and mixed reality.

Meanwhile Xavier Leclercq’s lecture,“Delivering 4K OTT services at scale using multicast ABR” examines the surge in demand for capacity on delivery networks of 4K content, especially live sports, amid an explosion of UHD-ready TV and capable devices in the UK. It will explore how multicast ABR technologies are addressing this challenge, allowing operators and content owners to successfully deliver and monetise personalised UHD OTT services.

Anthony Basham, President of the SCTE said: “The time is now right to get together in person after all we have been through, and we are delighted to be hosting this event at Mercedes-Benz World and giving something back to all our members. The Summer Lecture promises to be just the right blend of education and fun, and we can’t wait to see everyone.”

Matt Stagg said, “It’s an exciting time to be in our industry with innovation taking place at such record speed that you don’t always appreciate what’s happening all around us. It’s good to take stock from time to time and really examine these incredible developments. I hope this lecture achieves just that and shows us all what’s possible.”

Xavier Leclercq added, ““We are delighted to participate in the SCTE Summer Lecture and to provide an insight into how multicast technology is unblocking network bottlenecks, enabling ISPs and content owners to cooperate in the creation and delivery of high-value 4K OTT services”.

The event is free of charge for all SCTE Members, and £50 for non-members. The driving experience is offered to all delegates at a discounted rate of £50, and £100 for non-members. If non-members wish to join the SCTE on the day they will receive a refund of £50.

Places are limited and will be booked up quickly; it is recommended that registration is made in advance.
