SCTE India and Kalpin Reach Agreement on Digital Cable and Broadband Skills Certification

One of the major drivers for 'Digital India' will be increasing the cable and broadband skills of the Digital India workforce. Taking a leaf from international test practices in Europe and the USA, set-top box and CPE (Customer Premises Equipment) device manufacturer, Kalpin, and SCTETM India have entered into an agreement whereby all of Kalpin’s technology personnel will hold SCTE certification. Kalpin has also undertaken to extend this requirement to all its partner operators.

SCTE training courses have achieved wide acceptance as the standard for young technicians wishing to enter the field of cable telecommunications and for those wishing to advance their knowledge and career prospects. They are used in-house by a number of operating companies and SCTE engineers can be found working in a variety of international organisations.

“This is an important step forward for India’s skill base, as the country moves towards digitisation,” explained Rahul Nehra, Co-Founder, Kalpin and Honorary National Secretary, SCTE India.

“It is essential that India’s manufacturers and operators have staff with the right skills to move forward the digital agenda, and to reassure customers that they are being offered the right support,” added Mike Thornton, President, SCTE (Society for Broadband Professionals).

The SCTE (Society for Broadband Professionals) offers a wide range of comprehensive training courses and individual course books (for home study or instructor-led use) with SCTE certification and its online assessment training centre. Students completing the course successfully become accredited SCTE Technicians and are issued with SCTE Certificates.

Founded in 1945, the SCTE is a Learned Society and non-profitmaking organisation whose aim is to raise the standard of broadband engineering in the telecommunications industry. The Society particularly concerns itself with the training and career advancement of technical professionals in the field. SCTE India was established in 2014 and is a non-profit educational Society designed to promote expertise, exchange of information, experience and the training and accreditation of members in India.
