SCTE Appoints New International Ambassador
The SCTETM (Society for Broadband Professionals) has appointed a new SCTE International Ambassador, Mike Thornton. The new role will focus on maintaining and fostering relationships and links in overseas markets such as India, the Balkans and Turkey, with an initial focus on the U.S.
Mike Thornton was formerly President of the SCTETM and currently heads its training committee. He has also been instrumental in spearheading new initiatives between the SCTETM (Society for Broadband Professionals) and the International Society of Broadband Experts (ISBE), known in the United States as the Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers, particularly around joint training efforts.
“As a result of discussions in the meetings recently held between the SCTE and ISBE, at ANGA COM in Cologne, we agreed that no momentum should be lost in the conversations and commitments between our two Societies, particularly around the cross-fertilisation of training resources. I am absolutely delighted that Mike Thornton has agreed to become the SCTE’s International Ambassador and take forward these initiatives,” commented Chris Bailey, President, SCTE.
“Our industry progresses most quickly when all elements of the ecosystem work collectively,” said Mark Dzuban, President and CEO of ISBE and the Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers. “We look forward to continuing to work with the Society for Broadband Professionals to extend the benefits of industry-leading training resources to the widest possible audience.”
In October 2017, both Societies signed a Memorandum of Understanding which provides a framework for continuing and future cooperation that will enhance their value to the international cable community. The agreement confirmed their intention to set up a working group to harmonise activities and develop mutually advantageous co-operative activities, with the aim of increasing the quality of their respective training portfolios and working more efficiently.
Both Societies will also co-locate their booths at the Liberty Global Technology Summit in Amsterdam, The Netherlands (19 September 2018).
