SCTE Announces 2016 Individual Achievement Award Winners

The SCTETM (Society for Broadband Professionals) has confirmed the winners of its prestigious 2016 Individual Achievement awards. The winners were announced at its Annual Gala Awards dinner on Saturday 9 April 2016 at the prestigious venue of Lincoln’s Inn in London. This key networking event in the industry calendar featured a champagne reception, four-course dinner, entertainment and dancing.

The award for SCTE Engineer of the Year 2016 was given to Matt Yarwood, MSCTE (formerly with Virgin Media). The 2016 Richard Harris Member of the Year award went to Paul Smith, FSCTE (Principal HFC Engineer, HFC Engineering, Virgin Media and Chairman, SCTE Papers’ Committee). An Honorary Fellowship of the Society was also presented to Howard Tully (Retired).

The 2016 David Hall award for Best Presentation was given to Dr. Merrion Edwards (Commercial Technology Director, Corning Optical Fiber & Cable, Corning Optical Communications) for her lecture presentation on ‘“Smaller Cables: Bigger Possibilities”. Finally, the 2016 Tom Hall award for Outstanding Services to Broadband Engineering was awarded to Ron Hranac (Technical Leader, Engineering, Cisco Systems) in recognition of his invaluable technical contribution to the industry.

Founded in 1945, the SCTE is a Learned Society and non-profitmaking organisation whose aim is to raise the standard of broadband engineering in the telecommunications industry. The Society particularly concerns itself with the training and career advancement of technical professionals in the field.
