SCTE Golf Day Winners

The SCTE's second Golf Day of the year was held on 13 October at Wokefield Park Golf Club near Reading in Berkshire (UK) , a parkland course measuring 6579 yards off the yellow tees.  We were blessed with excellent playing conditions, very sunny and not much wind, and the course was kind to many of us with some good scoring achieved.

There were twelve teams competing, out of an original seventeen that showed interest (just one team less than the Summer golf event held at Hanbury Manor on 2 August in conjunction with Informa), so it was a very strong turnout.

The resulting scores were very respectable with Technicolor's third team attaining a very good 125 points  (the best three Stableford Scores from each hole to count) to win the team Stableford competition, so they dovetailed very well under the captaincy of Andrew Susans (23). The other team members were Nick Silverwood (15), Steve Woods (10) and Paul Sabell (13). Their efforts were rewarded by a bottle of champagne each, sponsored by Iuvo/DTC (Alistair Crook and James Norden respectively).

The individual winner, with an excellent Stableford score of 42 off of a 22 handicap (not next time) was Mark Davey playing on the Iuvo/DTC team.  For his efforts, he won a Panasonic Music Centre/Ipod doc kindly sponsored by Ben Allwright of Flomatik.

Second place went to Zygi Kamasa of Lionsgate playing on Technicolor’s second team, with 41 points off of a 12 handicap, a very good score.  Third place was Nick Silverwood of Plusnet on the Technicolor 3 team with 40 points off a 15 handicap, and fourth after countback was Frank Summerfield of Verimatrix with 40 points off 11 handicap.

‘Longest Drive’ went to Richard Burton (11), playing on the Concurrent team, just pipping John Davies (24).  Richard went home with a couple of bottles of excellent Rioja sponsored by Geoff Bray of Segnet.

‘Closest to the Pin’ on the 8th 178 yard par 3 was James Luce (20) of Telefonica playing on the Technicolor second team, captained by Jon Myall. James won a "Training Aid” sponsored by Jonathan Rigby of Asheridge.  Hopefully, James has managed to work out how it all fits together and hasn't injured himself in the process.

Closest to the Pin on the 17th 147 yard par 3 was Richard Warren (24), playing on the Microsoft team captained by Simon Hanna.  Richard took a few more bottles of Rioja home kindly sponsored by Bob Chalker of Concurrent.

All in all, a great day in good conditions with excellent playing partners. We look forward to the next one.
