A message from the SCTE President re COVID-19

I wanted to send a message of support to all our members at this difficult time as a result of the coronavirus (COVID-19) impact worldwide. Our members around the world are always at the forefront of our thoughts, and now more than ever. Because of the current situation in which we find ourselves, we have taken the difficult decision to postpone all Society events until further notice. This includes the Society’s 75th Anniversary Annual Gala Awards Dinner at the Tower of London in June, which has now been postponed to 26 June 2021, and its Summer Lecture in July which will now be held on 7 July 2021 at Mercedes-Benz World. Our Autumn Lecture and AGM on 7 October will now take place online.

anthony bashamOur Society events are so important to us and we love nothing more than bringing members of the SCTE together and meeting our members around the world, but we have considered this carefully and hope you understand that it is the right thing to do under the circumstances. The health and safety of our members is always paramount. We are therefore exploring all options, including virtual and digital, to give you access to new presentations and information during the year.

We have made a free special edition of the SCTE Fibre Optic Transmission for Technicians Course available on the www.broadbandtraining.eu website for all members. This training course was due to be a member gift for our 75th anniversary this year, and we hope that it will both upskill and entertain you while COVID-19 imposes itself on our daily life. Please request a log-in at www.broadbandtraining.eu/lms

Please be assured that those registered to attend our forthcoming events have been contacted directly. Until the long-term implications of coronavirus (COVID-19) become clear, we will not know when we will be able to re-start Society events, but we will update all SCTE members as soon as we can. We will also continue to keep you updated via email blasts, on SCTE’s social media platforms (YouTube, Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and Instagram) and via our website (www.thescte.eu ). You will continue to receive your copy of Broadband Journal and can access a wealth of data on our website, including data on technical standards and specifications, lecture presentations, news etc.

The SCTE office at Communications House in Watford is now closed and we are working remotely to provide service as usual. Our team is still very active and ready to support you, so please do not hesitate to get in touch with us at any time. Please email: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. and, if you need to talk to us, leave a telephone number and we will get back to you.

If there are any other services that we can offer to support you in the meantime, do not hesitate to let us know. Please take care and keep yourself and your loved ones safe at this worrying time. We very much hope that the situation begins to improve for us all soon.

Warmest wishes,

Anthony Basham FSCTE
