21107 - SCTE Broadband Nov2020 COMPLETE v1

94 Vol. 42 No. 4 - November 2020 Issue Corning Optical Communications has launched 5G-ready terminals and connectors that are miniaturised to accommodate more fibre connections in smaller spaces. Designed for use in FTTx access networks, where space and speed of installation translate into savings, Corning maintains that its Evolv™ Hardened Connectivity Terminals with Pushlok™ Technology enables faster connections with audible and tactile feedback upon insertion. The terminal’s design is deliberately discrete, it told Broadband Journal , making it suitable for façade placement, especially on historic buildings. “A micro world of massive possibilities,” the company explained. “As wireline and wireless networks proliferate, the existing infrastructure leads to congestion so that smaller connectors are more effective,” it added. “The single-fibre connector leverages an SC APC compatible ferrule, is backwards-compatible with widely deployed, threaded OptiTap® ports with a field-installed adapter and can also be converted for use with standard SC APC patch panels,” it said. This new product also eliminates SKU complexity with OptiTap and SC convertible accessories. It is tested to Telcordia GR- 3120 (which includes freeze/thaw, immersion, crush, humidity and sealing tests, among others) to subject the connector to the challenges it may face. It is also rated to IP68, defined by the IEC and used by the National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) to indicate its uninterrupted performance in high-pressure immersion environments. Providing access to the deep visual analytics of the VB440 through any HTML-5 browser, the PoE+ Tabletop Kit leverages the style and durability of an iPad Pro screen type, with PoE+ technology, which supplies the unit directly with both its energy and network needs. Through its incorporation of fully redundant wired Gigabit Ethernet connection, the unit eliminates reliance on the presence of a physical power socket and (sometimes) unstable Wi-Fi connection.
