Sara Waddington Managing Editor SCTE, Society for Broadband Professionals E-mail: sara.waddington@theSCTE.eu Website: www.theSCTE.eu COVID-19 has sadly impacted the Society’s 75th anniversary celebrations this year. SCTE staff, working from home, are still active and ready to support members. Please email us on office@thescte.eu if you need to contact us. To further support our members, we have also created a COVID-19 toolkit with hints, tips, advice, best practice news and guidance on working during the pandemic. This can be accessed on our website at https://www.thescte.eu/ resources/covid-19-toolkit In this issue of Broadband Journal, we discuss DOCSIS- 4.0 and migration tools to enable HFC networks to support customers well into the 2030s (page 42), analyse the future of Wi-Fi (page 30) and examine routing in 5G transport networks (page 56). We also provide the latest cable standards updates (page 24) and celebrate ten years of HbbTV (page 38). New SCTE appointments Following the SCTE Executive Committee meeting on 28 October 2020 , Anthony Basham (Technetix) was re-elected as President of the SCTE, as well as Vice Chair of its Training and Technical/Standards committees. New appointments also included Rien Baan (formerly the SCTE Benelux Group Secretary), who becomes the new Vice President of the Society, and Les Hampson, who is the new Society Treasurer and Chair of its Finance Committee. Ruud Wielaard becomes the New Benelux Group Secretary (see page 14). The Society has also revised its subcommittee structure and confirmed the chairs and vice chairs of its various committees – see https://www.thescte.eu/about-us/scte-structure This will be the last issue of Broadband Journal that I will edit, as I leave the SCTE at the end of this year to pursue new projects. It has been a pleasure and a privilege to represent the SCTE as its managing editor for thirteen years – thank you for sharing your experiences and expertise with me over this time. Melissa Cogavin has now been appointed as SCTE’s managing editor, and will be editing Broadband Journal going forward (see page 4). She can be contacted at melissa@thescte.eu Events in focus The SCTE is launching an exciting new programme of webinars (see page 6) and encourages all individual and corporate members to contact us with ideas and topics that would appeal to them. Many of them are based around technologies and trends, but there may be other areas that you would like to see us cover. We recently held two online lectures – the SCTE Benelux online lunch lecture on 10 September 2020 and the SCTE’s Autumn Lecture and AGM on 7 October 2020 . SCTE members can download presentations from these events on the SCTE website at www.thescte.eu The Society’s Spring Lecture will take place on 24 March 2021 (National Motorcycle Museum in Birmingham, UK). Its Summer Lecture and driving/networking event will be held on 7 July 2021 at Mercedes-Benz World in the UK. Please do not miss the SCTE’s special 75+1 Anniversary Annual Gala Awards Dinner at the Tower of London, which will take place on 26 June 2021 . This is the SCTE’s flagship networking event and corporate members are being offered the opportunity to book tables early. See page 9 for further details. All our events next year will celebrate the SCTE’s 75+1 Anniversary year in 2021. We hope you will join us at these. We will be announcing more events, including virtual and digital, to give you access to new presentations and information during the year. Stay tuned for further developments on this!
